We are delighted to announce that Mark Unternahrer has been appointed Senior Coach of Kilsyth Cricket Club for our centenary season in 2019/20. Congratulations Mark on your appointment in a season which is a historic milestone for our Club.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank David Rochford, last season’s Senior Coach, who has decided to step down from the role but will still be playing.

Unters has been an outstanding player and servant of Kilsyth Cricket Club over many years and has a great deal of experience to pass on to our younger players in particular. Mark’s achievements are almost too numerous to mention but here are some.

A truly remarkable record with Kilsyth: 276 senior games, 13 time Club Champion, 4 premierships (1 First XI, 1 First XI T-20 and 2 Veterans) and 6 runners-up, with some very narrow losses amongst them. A match winning all rounder, Mark has won six First XI batting averages and 12 First XI bowling averages, as well as a 2nd XI Batting Average (125.0) and 2nd XI Bowling Average (12.23). Mark has scored 7,177 runs at an average of 28.71 (6,202 runs @ 28.06 in the 1st XI), including 40 half centuries (32 in 1st XI) and 6 centuries (all in 1st XI), with a highest score of 132. His best season with the bat was 463 runs @ 46.30. With the ball, Mark has taken 640 wickets at an average of 15.65 (540 wickets @ 16.56 in 1st XI). For the First XI he has captured 2 hat-tricks, including a double hat-trick (7/12 against Wonga Park 1st XI in 2012/13). His best bowling in a season was 38 wickets @ 12.76, best bowling in an innings 8/21 and match 12/52.

Association Awards: Chandler Shield (Trollope Shield) Best & Fairest in 1998/99 (Bill Dean Medal) and was runner-up for this award on six other occasions. Additionally, in the RDCA’s top grade he was awarded Best All Rounder on four occasions. In 1993/94 Mark also won the Bill Wilkins Medal for being Best & Fairest Player in Wilkins Cup (then A Grade), a premiership season. In 2016/17 and 2017/18 he also won the Steve Pascoe Medal (Best & Fairest) and in 2017/18 the Best All Rounder in the Steve Pascoe Shield Competition.

A former Kilsyth CC Captain Coach for seven years, Mark was President for six years, Secretary for one year and Vice President for a number of years as well as being a Life Member of the Club.

In addition to his 276 games for Kilsyth CC, Mark played 122 games at Croydon North CC and 19 at Ringwood CC. At Croydon North, Unters played in NINE PREMIERSHIPS (7 senior and 2 junior) and scored 8 centuries, including 102 against Ainslie Park in a Chandler Shield Grand Final. For Ringwood’s 2nd XI Mark scored 180 in a game against Essendon before promoted to Ringwood’s 1st XI.

Hence, our new leader has the experience and will to win and we need all players to get behind Mark and the Club in our centenary season. We have the talent, and the opportunity is now! The questions are: Are our players prepared to make the sacrifices needed? How will our centenary season be remembered?

Training commences on Thursday, 1st August 2019 at Saxon Sports, Croydon, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm ($5 per person) and on Thursdays thereafter. Please be there by 5.50pm so we are ready to go on time. Good luck to everyone.
